Caitlin Clark is blatantly trying to recruit Liberty 3-point shooter to the Indiana Fever

The WNBA's All-Star Weekend brings together players who are used to playing against one another and puts them on the same team, something that is special for the athletes on the court and for fans.

It's also something that provides the opportunity for a little one-on-one player recruitment, though a lot of that likely happens behind the scenes — unless you're Caitlin Clark.

Clark and the Liberty's Sabrina Ionescu have always seemed to have an easy friendship, and it wasn't a huge surprise when the Fever star drafted Ionescu to her All-Star team. Though Clark ultimately didn't get to play in the big game, she was still on the sidelines coaching alongside the Liberty's Sandy Brondello.

Ionescu shared a post via Instagram on July 20 that featured photos from the All-Star Game and all the surrounding festivities. It caught the attention of a lot of people, including Clark who made sure to comment that Ionescu was "looking real natural in that lockerroom" — a reference to the Fever's locker room, since the game was hosted at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

While the comment was light-hearted, there's likely a degree of seriousness behind it. Almost the entire WNBA will be free agents in 2026, and it the league avoids a shutdown, that means plenty of players will be courted by new teams. Ionescu hasn't given any indication that she wants to leave New York (and if she did, she might be more likely to head back home to California, or to Oregon, where she went to college).

But the combination of Clark and Ionescu on the Fever would be pretty lethal, and that's probably what the 23-year-old was hinting at. Next year's free agency is very likely to be be filled with plenty of surprises... and only time will tell if Ionescu makes any moves.
