C-Falls doubles, Whitefish singles excel at Northwest A tennis

LIBBY — After rains pushed the majority of Friday’s play, champions were crowned at the Northwest A tennis divisional Saturday.

Whitefish claimed three of the titles with Liesl Brust taking the girls singles, Maggie Mercer and Camry Kelch winning girls doubles and Walt Seigmund and Aaron Anderson claiming the boys doubles. 

On top of the titles, Whitefish sends four other singles players to state with top four finishes. Jack Oehlerich took the runner-up spot in the boys singles with Owen Erickson finishing third. For the girls, Allie Shors and Emy Hansen took third and fourth. 

While Columbia Falls may not have had the titles, three doubles pairings secured spots in the state tournament May 22-23 in Billings. Will Picard and Silas Ypma came second in the boys competition with teammates Jax Ramage and Sol Masters taking a top four spot. On the girls side, Alanis Peterson and Aliyah Arends finished top four. 

Libby’s Ryan Beagle continued his reign in the boys singles competition, the defending state champion defeated Oehlerich in the title match. He was the lone state qualifier for the Loggers. 

Bigfork sends one to the state tournament, Taylor Howlett and Raegan Waller finished as runners-up in the girls doubles competition. 

Polson sent one player or pair from each competition, with Summer Newman and Ruger Ellis qualifying as singles. Hinkley Moss and Greta Lund and Branson Moss and Teague McElwee claimed spots in the doubles competition.
