Browns Wideout Should Avoid Being 'A Jerk' in 2025

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Diontae Johnson needs to keep his nose clean in 2025.

While the Cleveland Browns are paying special attention to their crowded quarterback room this offseason, there's another position group that needs attention that could be quietly forgotten.

Cleveland has just two receivers on their summer roster who have caught at least 50 passes in a season. Jerry Jeudy and Diontae Johnson.

And Johnson is just barely on the roster.

It's because of his recent history of problems that a Browns insider offered some valuable advice for the pass catcher.

"The marching orders for Johnson are clear: Button his lip, cash his relatively small paychecks, catch the ball, be coachable and be a good teammate. Most of all, don't be a jerk," Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com wrote.

Johnson had a drama-filled season in 2024 and played for three different teams. He led the Panthers with 30 catches and 357 yards over the first two months of the season before being traded to Baltimore, where he lasted seven weeks and caught one pass.

He was also suspended by Baltimore for refusing to enter a game against the Eagles on Dec. 1. The Ravens waived him not long after, and he was claimed by the Texans. Houston waived him three weeks later after he became emotional about playing just 15 plays in the Wild Card game against the Chargers.

Now, he'll try to clear his head in Cleveland, where he spoke during minicamp for the first time about last season.

"I don't want to speak on a lot of stuff," Johnson said. "Everybody's going to have their opinions, you know what I'm saying? So at the end of the day, I'm the only one in that room that really know what's going on. They're entitled to their own opinion, so I can only go off of what I know and then try to go off what I put out there and my best effort.

"But like I said, last year is last year. I'm trying to change that narrative and move the right way and keep going."

If Johnson can keep his head clear and avoid "being a jerk" then he might have something to offer the Browns this season. If not, then 2025 could go the same way 2024 went.
