Browns HC Kevin Stefanski sticking with Joe Flacco despite lackluster offensive performance against Lions

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski remains committed to playing 41-year-old veteran quarterback Joe Flacco.

Even after the Browns were blown out by Detroit in Week 4, 34-10, Stefanski claims switching quarterbacks isn't even in consideration. Despite the lack of offense, Stefanski isn't placing the blame squarely on Flacco's shoulders.

“That’s not our focus … We didn’t do enough on offense” Stefanski said following the loss to Detroit.

Flacco completed 16 of 34 passes for 184 yards, two interceptions and a fumble. Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel entered the game late and had one incomplete pass. So far there has been no sign of rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders who has been in the primary role of emergency third QB this season. Flacco now has two touchdown passes to six interceptions through four games this season and has been sacked nine times including three on Sunday in Detroit.

Stefanski wasn't wrong though about his offense overall. They didn't do enough against the Lions in Week 4 and haven't in general this season. They haven't scored more than 17 points in a game all season and only scored 13 in the teams only win of the season last week at home against Green Bay. Rookie running back Quinshon Judkins has been one of the few bright spots for Cleveland's offense, and continued that trend in Week 4.

Judkins rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown while also adding four catches for 33 yards in the loss Sunday. He also led the team is rushing yards and receptions against the Lions. Other than Judkins' contribution offensively it was slim pickings for the Browns as they fell to 1-3 this season.

In the days leading up to this game, Lions' offensive coordinator John Morton drew headlines when he said the Browns' highly rated defense hadn't seen a running game like Detroit's. Morton's running game helped back up his words for the most part rushing for a combined 109 yards. Jahmyr Gibbs accounted for most of that with 91 yards on the ground and a touchdown while Cleveland bottled up David Montgomery holding him to 12 yards on nine carries.

Cleveland will get ready for a Week 5 showdown in London with the Minnesota Vikings (2-2) next Sunday. The Vikings will also be looking to rebound after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland in Week 4. That game will lead Week 5's Sunday slate of games starting at 9:30 a.m. ET next Sunday.
