The Atlanta Braves have been performing in underwhelming fashion as they look to stay relevant in the NL Wildcard picture.
With a 34-40 record, the Braves are 11 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East.
Their season has been drama-filled, with the suspension of All-Star outfielder Jurickson Profar, Ronald Acuna Jr. returning from his ACL tear, and rumors have swirled on whether or not manager Brian Snitker needs to be fired.
Before Atlanta's second game of the series against the Miami Marlins, it was announced that 2024 Cy Young award-winning pitcher Chris Sale has been placed on the 15-day injured list.
It's believed that Sale suffered a ribcage fracture after diving for a ball during the ninth inning in his dominant start against the New York Mets on Wednesday.
The 36-year-old pitcher stayed in the game after the play, but would later be replaced at the mound by closer Raisel Iglesias for the final two pitches of the game.
His injury is another thing to add to the list of things going wrong for the Atlanta Braves this season.
Sale was looking like he would implement his name in the Cy Young race in 2025 as well. Through 15 starts this season, Sale has a 5-4 record with a 2.52 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and has struck out 114 batters in 89.1 innings pitched.
The Braves recalled left-handed pitcher Austin Cox from Triple-A Gwinnett after placing the ace pitcher on the injured list.
Atlanta will look to rally back from a 6-2 loss against the Miami Marlins as they play the second game of their series on Saturday.
