Barcelona top target returns from vacation to finalise transfer to Camp Nou

Barcelona have reached a certain level of calm as far as their pursuit of Nico Williams is concerned.

Despite immense pushback from Athletic Club, the Catalans remain confident of sealing the deal within this week. They are, in fact, planning to activate Nico’s release clause on Friday.

Activating the release clause could go a long way in helping Barcelona move a step closer to acquiring Nico, who is ready to join the club despite uncertainties over registration.

Nico returns from vacation to close the deal

According to SPORT, Nico Williams has returned from vacation and is prepared to sign the powers of attorney required for Barcelona to act on his behalf when paying his release clause at La Liga’s offices.

This is quite significant for Barça, who had required the power of attorney in order to go through with the deal.

Initially, Nico’s agent, Felix Tainta, had raised concerns over Barcelona’s ability to register the player. But the club remain confident of the registration.

The Catalans are hopeful of returning to the 1:1 rule this week and registering Nico before the first matchday. They want to avoid a situation which Dani Olmo faced last season.

Nico, for his part, has shown a great deal of goodwill. As per the agreement, Barcelona will spread his salary over the length of a six-year contract until 2031, while adjusting the first year’s figures to help with La Liga’s salary cap restrictions.

The sale of unwanted stars such as Ansu Fati could go a long way in helping Barcelona ease the financial burden and secure the registration of Nico as soon as possible.

If everything goes to plan, Nico will be there to present himself as a Barcelona player on July 13.
