Badgers sweep Yellow Jackets in best win of season

The No. 6 Wisconsin Badgers recorded their fourth straight sweep, beating the No. 21 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on the road 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-19) to improve to 5-1 on the season.

It was the best win of the early season for the Badgers, as they were able to finish each set strong and beat a ranked opponent in their first road match of the year.

Wisconsin had 51 kills in the win, hitting .488 as opposed to Georgia Tech’s .280. Mimi Colyer led the way with 19 kills, while Grace Egan had 14 of her own. Sophomore Charlie Fuerbringer had a whopping 40 assists in the win, while also posting 10 digs.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle, with both sides tied at 20 apiece late in the frame. But, after going down 22-21, the Badgers had four straight points, with Colyer, Egan, and freshman Madison Quest all recording kills to win the set for the Badgers.

Wisconsin started the second set strong and never relinquished the lead, pulling away for a 25-17 win. It was the same story in the third, as the Badgers started hot and remained on top to close out the set and the match.

Since getting swept by the Texas Longhorns, the Badgers are now on a four-game winning streak, sweeping each of those opponents. Next up is another road contest against rival Marquette at the Fiserv Forum. First serve is set for 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Then, the Badgers have another marquee matchup, hosting the No. 16 Florida Gators at the Kohl Center at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, as they look to continue their recent hot stretch.
