Arsenal announce signing of Christian Norgaard

Arsenal have announced the signing of Christian Norgaard from Brentford for a fee in the region of £10m.

The Denmark international becomes Arsenal’s second signing of the summer window, following the £5m arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.

Norgaard arrives in North London after six seasons with Brentford. The 31-year-old was a key part of the club’s promotion to the Premier League and consolidation as a top-flight side. He made 196 appearances across all competitions for the Bees, scoring 13 times.

“We’re delighted to welcome Christian to Arsenal. He is an international player with a wealth of experience of the Premier League,” Mikel Arteta told the club’s official website.

“He has proven leadership skills and a strong character which will be invaluable to our squad.

“He is a strong midfielder with excellent tactical awareness and versatility. He also has physical presence and intelligence which will give us added depth and balance. Christian will bring a lot to the group both on and off the pitch, and we’re excited to start working with him in this next chapter of his career. We welcome Christian and his family to Arsenal.”

Last season was the most productive campaign of Norgaard’s career. The Dane scored five goals and provided four assists in the Premier League, while ranking second among all midfielders for interceptions. He also covered more distance than any other Premier League player.

Arsenal have brought in Norgaard as an experienced replacement for Thomas Partey and Jorginho, who have each left the Emirates. Norgaard will wear the number 16 shirt for Mikel Arteta’s side next season.
