Anthony Joshua’s Quest In Facing The Gypsy King

Joshua Hopeful for Ring Return After Loss to Daniel Dubois

After losing to Daniel Dubois via a fifth-round knockout in Wembley last September, Anthony Joshua is preparing for a comeback, and he has gone ahead to name what would be favorable opponents to face.

The British heavyweight fighter has been keen on facing Tyson Fury, a long-time rival who is currently retired from the sport. The Gypsy king has been seen training, but he has not yet changed his earlier choice of retirement. A fight against Fury will fast-track his return to the big leagues and guarantee the boxer a shot at a worthy opponent for his hopes of a title challenge.

With time ticking for Anthony Joshua, he would still like to get a chance at a title bout as quickly as possible, and he hopes a huge fight will happen for him soon but this might take some time as the boxer is set to undergo surgery which will most certainly delay his return until later in the year.

During a recent press conference, AJ had this to share:

“Hope (AJ vs Fury) happens. The industry should not be left without it, and those interested should be able to witness it. I think a potential fight with Martin Bakole, Agit Kabayel, or Deontay Wilder would work too. To be completely honest with you, Joseph Parker deserves a shot at the winner of Usyk vs Dubois 2 more than me right now,” said Joshua.

Joshua has gone ahead to name other potential opponents he would also like to face if the Gypsy king decides not to come out of retirement. Among the three, Joshua and Wilder have not yet faced each other in the ring, even though they have had some rivalry out of the ring for some years now.

They once came close but Wilder lost back-to-back fights against Parker and Zhang, these two losses linked him to retirement, but he managed to bounce back after gaining a victory over Tyrell Herndon on June 27 to get back into the boxing conversations.

Meanwhile, with all these still in the works, AJ is currently trying to rebuild physically to ensure he is in prime condition.

“My body has been through work. If I want to be here for a long time, I just want to make sure my body is good before I get back into the ring,” said AJ.
