When thing starts to go wrong in Major League Baseball, they typically don't end very well.
For the New York Mets, that's something they've dealt with over their past 10 games, sitting at 3-7. The Mets have had multiple problems, especially on the mound.
Not only have the Mets had trouble getting outs at a high level from their starting rotation, but many of their starters can't go more than a few innings in a game.
Mets ready to demote starting rotation
Right-hander Clay Holmes has struggled a bit throughout his past few outings, and for Mets skipper Carlos Mendoza, it's something the team has to consider.
“I think some guys from the rotation have had a tough stretch here,” Mendoza said of the through line of the losses, per The Post. “When we’re playing a lot of games in a row and we’re not getting decent length or decent outings, it has a trickle effect. On the pitching staff, on the bats. The game is obviously different.
“Usually you’re down four or five runs, and then the at-bats are completely different.”
According to the New York Post, Mendoza also stated that it's currently unknown whether Holmes will receive another opportunity to start a game on the mound for the Mets.

He has been used as a reliever for much of his career, converting to a full-time starter again this season, so the Mets may view him as a reliever in the postseason.
“The Mets rotation is set through Sunday before an off-day Monday that Mendoza said will be used to talk through their pitching strategy. He has said Manaea will get another start “as of now.” It is unknown whether Holmes has earned one too after another four-plus-inning, four-run outing in which he allowed six hits, three walks and hit two.”
Nonetheless, it's clear that things aren't going as planned in New York, something the organization will really have to get a grip on over the next few weeks.
