Shaken by the defeat against Libya (0-1) on September 4, Pedro Gonçalves will remain in charge of the Palancas Negras technical staff.

A meeting was held between the Portuguese coach and members of the Angolan Football Federation to discuss his future at the helm of the national team. It was decided to extend their trust in him.

There were calls for the 49-year-old coach’s dismissal after the defeat to Libya. Despite a win against Mauritius (3-1) five days later, Angola lost all hope of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Angola sits in fourth place in Group D with 10 points, trailing Cape Verde (19 pts), Cameroon (15 pts), and Libya (14 pts), with just two rounds remaining in the qualifiers.
