Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky didn’t have the Saturday afternoon they were hoping for. They hosted the Phoenix Mercury, looking to pick up their fourth win of the 2025 WNBA season. Unfortunately for them, they were blown out once again—this time, 107-86.
Reese finished with nine points, just two rebounds and two assists. The two rebounds are tied for the fewest she’s ever recorded in a single game across her WNBA, college basketball and high school career.
Her teammate Kamilla Cardoso played well, though. The 6-foot-7 center finished with 17 points and three rebounds.
Despite the loss and falling to 3-9 on the season, Cardoso's play was worthy of an announcement after the game. The team took to social media, sharing that she was Chicago's player of the game.
"KMILL," the Sky wrote.
Reese, who played just 21 minutes compared to her usual 30-plus, was one of many who saw the post, reacting not with words, but with a subtle like.
Reese and Cardoso have some history from their college days, when they went head-to-head in SEC matchups. Reese played at LSU, and Cardoso was with South Carolina. Cardoso won both of the games they faced each other.
They were both then drafted by the Sky in the 2024 WNBA draft, with the center going third overall and the forward going seventh overall.
Chicago will look to regroup as they have a quick turnaround, facing the Atlanta Dream on Sunday in Georgia. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
