Angel Reese landing spots: Wings, Mystics lead list of potential suitors for Sky star

Angel Reese's two-year tenure with the Chicago Sky has been marked by rebounds, dogged defense and losses -- lots and lots of losses.

The Chicago forward has emerged as one of the league's best talents since entering the league in 2024. But her employers haven't built a winning roster -- or anything quite close to one.

The Sky posted the Eastern Conference's worst record in 2025, just as they did in 2024. Their roster underwhelms outside of Reese, a perennial All-Star whose game figures to translate to more competitive organizations. With the losses continuing to pile up, player and franchise appear to be reaching an impasse. Reese herself admitted as much while speaking with Chicago Tribune reporter Julia Poe.

“I’m not settling for the same s— we did this year,” Reese said. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.

“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want. I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me. But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”

It's unclear if Chicago can match Reese's ambitions at this point in her career. If they can't, she is likely to have plenty of suitors around the league.

Here's a look at four teams that could make a play for Reese if she's made available for trade in the coming months.

Angel Reese landing spots

Dallas Wings

The Dallas Wings have their point guard of the future in Paige Bueckers. But outside of that, they're lacking in long-term pieces. Reese has made serious strides as a secondary ball-handler and playmaker, all while continuing to make a presence as a rebounder and defender.

Dallas would have to part ways with some serious assets to bring in Reese, who has two years remaining under team control. The Wings would likely have to shell out draft capital to land Reese, including potential lottery picks in 2026 and 2027. But her skillset figures to pop alongside Bueckers, a similarly gifted two-way player who would ease the burden placed on Reese on both ends of the floor.

Washington Mystics

Like Dallas, Washington Mystics is one of the precious few teams that have the resource capital to make a real run at Reese. The Mystics will have three first-round picks in the 2026 WNBA Draft, including a lottery pick. They also have a host of captivating young talents that could entice the Sky into making a deal, including Georgia Amoore, Jade Melbourne and Emily Engstler.

The Mystics have quietly amassed one of the league's best young cores, with Shakira Austin, Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen all showing out throughout their still-burgeoning careers. That reputation has to be enchanting for Reese, especially after Chicago stripped back its youthfulness by trading the rights to Citron to DC for Ariel Atkins last year.

Reese knows the area well, having shone for Maryland before transferring to LSU in college. She'd be close to home -- the Mystics played two home games in Baltimore in 2025 and stand to play in Charm City more in the coming few seasons. Washington isn't a playoff team just yet. But it isn't too far away, either; prior to the Brittney Sykes trade, the Mystics were on pace to compete for a postseason berth.

Atlanta Dream

The Atlanta Dream enjoyed a wondrous campaign in 2025, climbing to the top of the Eastern Conference as Allisha Gray established herself as a first-team All-WNBA candidate. They have accrued an impressive number of All-Star-caliber players, including Rhyne Howard, Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones.

Atlanta looks certified for the long-haul. But you can never have enough talent. Griner's production dwindled in her age-34 season, suggesting a change could be in the cards for the Dream's frontcourt in due time. Reese, with her prodigious rebounding, on-ball flashes and defensive chops, looks well-equipped to anchor a talented defensive unit like the Dream's. She also has two years of team control left, giving Atlanta some additional roster flexibility if it is to allow Griner to walk following the 2025 season.

Seattle Storm

The Seattle Storm aren't exactly the epitome of stability in the WNBA. In fact, they've dealt with plenty of uncertainty in the past two seasons, both on-and-off the floor.

There's still plenty of talent in the locker room, though. Gabby Williams netted her first All-Star appearance in 2025, while Nneka Ogwumike, Skylar Diggins and Ezi Magbegor rank as some of the league's best players at their respective position. Then, there's Dominique Malonga, a unicorn of a big who some believe could be the best player from the 2025 draft class in a few years time.

If Seattle wants to cement its place as a contender in the future, Reese seems a worthwhile addition. Her defensive flexibility would pair well with Williams, Magbegor and Jordan Horston, who missed the 2025 season after tearing her ACL. Her arrival could also facilitate a transition plan for Ogwumike, who is approaching her late 30s.
