Alex Cora Says Alex Bregman Has a 'Really Good Chance' to Return to Red Sox Lineup Before All-Star Break

The Boston Red Sox have been without their All-Star third baseman, Alex Bregman, for over a month. He's been out with a quadriceps injury and has been working his way back to the lineup, but he's not back just yet.

However, in a new announcement from Alex Cora, shared by Ian Browne of MLB.com, Bregman is closing in on a return. Cora said that Bregman has a "really good chance" to return to the lineup before the All-Star break.

The 31-year-old signed a huge three-year, $120 million deal in free agency in the offseason. But he has an opt-out after 2025, so his return to the lineup is a major piece of news for the Red Sox.

There have been rumors that if the Red Sox can't re-sign Bregman, he could be traded away at the deadline. Whether that rumor comes true or not, getting Bregman back in the lineup is a great sign for the Red Sox.

This update from Cora signifies the Red Sox third baseman is close to making his return after more than a month away from the lineup. It sets an interesting timeline as well, with the All-Star break just around the corner.

If Bregman does return before the All-Star break, he'd have to make his return to the Red Sox lineup in the next five games.

With a four-game homestand against the Tampa Bay Rays, the final series before the All-Star break, that could be the series for Bregman to make his long-awaited return to the lineup.

So much has changed in the time he's been gone. Rafael Devers has been traded, Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer have been called up, while Jarren Duran is at the center of trade rumors.

But, no matter what happens, Bregman's return to the lineup will be a welcome one. He's been out for some time, and Cora's announcement hints at his return to the lineup in the next week.

It's great news for the Red Sox, as the team sits just one game out of a Wild Card spot, with the Rays a half-game up on the Red Sox. A strong series with Bregman back could elevate the Red Sox to be buyers at the deadline, a drastic shift from the perspective after Devers was traded to begin June.
