A tale of two offensive lines

It has long been said that an NFL game is “won in the trenches.” Through that lens, the play of the offensive line is critically important. I imagine that this is a message that is not lost on New York Jets fans after some of the offensive lines that they have been forced to watch in recent years.

This weekend the shoe seems to be on the other foot. So far this season, the years of investment of the New York Jets into the offensive line seems to be paying dividends.

In particular, the right side of the offensive line has been lockdown with first round pick offensive tackle Armand Membou leading the charge with the 3rd best PFF grade among tackles after 2 weeks.

By comparison, the Buccaneers offensive line comes in a bit wounded, potentially allowing the Jets defensive line to control the pace of play when they’re on the field.

You never know what a Sunday brings, but the Jets seem to be have a considerable advantage when comparing the two offensive lines, at least on paper. If the Jets pull off the upset, this will likely be a big reason why.
