A Lakers sweep Twins Monday

Beau McEwen threw seven solid innings and the Kalispell A Lakers took advantage of six Glacier errors to defeat the Twins 10-3 in the first game of what became a doubleheader sweep at Griffin Field Monday. 

The Lakers (18-13) rode 16 walks and six hit by pitch issued by Twins pitching to a 16-6 win in five innings in the second game.

Kalispell also picked up seven walks in the opener, to go with five hit batters to keep the baselines busy against the Twins. Max Schara walked once, was hit once and scored twice; Fischer Lee was hit with two pitches and scored twice; Beau Schultz had one of three runs batted in for the Lakers, who were outhit 8-4. 

Tait Orme had two hits for the Lakers, who scored three runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. The rally started with Schara drawing a walk, then Lee getting hit; Schultz followed with an RBI single, and when Liam Riche’s fly was mishandled both base runners scored. 

A walk and two errors got the Lakers one run in the third inning before Schara squeezed home Miles Arrowsmith to make it 5-1. Another Glacier error scored two Laker runs in the fifth inning, and a passed ball on strike three allowed in another run for an 8-1 lead. 

The Twins led 1-0 in the first on Reed Boyer’s RBI single. In the sixth they got an RBI groundout from Dawson Juntunen (scoring Derek Juntunen, who had singled) and in the seventh inning Treyson Murphy hit an RBI single.  

Just three of the Lakers’ runs were earned. 

McEwen scattered eight hits and four walks in seven innings. He hit two batters and struck out one.

Orme went 1-for-2 but drew two walks and scored five times for the Lakers. 

Once again the Twins (1-9) led early, by scores of 3-2 in the first inning and 6-5 in the third. The Twins again outhit Kalispell, 6-3.  

Then the Lakers got six runs in their half of the third inning — on six walks, two hit batters (with the bases full) and a Twins error — to take command. 

Lee and Jayce Wheeler each had two RBIs; Schultz scored three times and Wyatt Sharp, Arrowsmith and Rech all scored twice. Sharp hit a double.  

On the mound, Jake Hale took over for Arrowsmith and got the last eight outs. He allowed one hit and one walk and fanned four. Arrowsmith allowed five hits, two walks and four earned runs. He hit two batters and struck six in 2 1-3 innings. 

West Amerman and Collison Lewis had two hits ech for Glacier. Trenton Derosa and Amerman each scored twice.
