Caicedo on power strike that should have earned 3 points

Moises Caicedo lashes in a super strike against Brentford.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the midfielder talked through his latest impressive effort.

“I knew what I was going to do,” said Caicedo.

“I was just thinking about shooting on goal. I did it and it was a great goal. I am going to keep going to help the team.

“Brentford play their football, putting the ball in the box, so it’s difficult. We tried to do our best but sometimes that happens. The reaction of the team was good – we needed to be patient and that’s why we could come back into the game.”

Sadly that notable good reaction didn’t earn us 3 points. In injury time, Chelsea conceded from a long throw to drop 2 precious points in very avoidable circumstances.

Chelsea can restore their confidence in challenging away game

It was a horrible result to try and swallow in the context. But there is at least the chance to bounce back and wash the taste out of our months with a big win tomorrow night when we face Bayern Munich in our Champions League return. Caicedo concurs:

“We are not happy because we didn’t win, but we are just thinking about Wednesday,” the midfielder said.

“For sure we are disappointed with the result, but now we have another game on Wednesday and we focus on that now. Everybody is going to be ready.”

We really hope that’s true. A lot of the players brought in to play on Sunday didn’t look “ready” at all. The first team will be back in action against Bayern, but the whole group’s level will have to be far higher. Bayern have bigger and better weapons than long throws.
