2026 DL David Schwerzel decommits from UCLA

Seattle O’Dea three-star defensive lineman David Schwerzel has decommitted from UCLA, he tells Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett.

The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder had been committed to the Bruins since June 19. He’s now the fourth prospect to decommit from the Big Ten program following the firing of head coach DeShaun Foster on Sunday afternoon.

Schwerzel is the No. 460 overall prospect and No. 46 DL in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 2 recruit in Washington.

The lineman out of the Pacific Northwest also holds offers from the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Washington and Stanford.

The 2025 season has been disastrous for the Bruins, who are now 0-3 after getting rolled at home by New Mexico on Friday night. Foster, who was in his second season as the head coach of his alma mater, was let go two days later.

Entering the weekend, UCLA had the nation’s No. 23 recruiting class in the cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Schwerzel joins four-star offensive tackle Johnnie Jones, three-star defensive lineman Anthony Jones and three-star EDGE Yahya Gaad as those who have decommitted from the Bruins thus far.
