My mom always tells me that I was born with expensive taste. There's nothing wrong with that, except for the small fact that I wasn't born into a wealthy family, of course. As an adult, I've learned to save — or shop secondhand! — for the finer things in life. I've also developed a knack for spotting affordable items that only look pricey. When people compliment me on a great dress I'm wearing or a piece of decor in my home, nothing brings me more joy than revealing how little I paid for it.
So today, I'm doing just that. Like many of you, I'm spending way too much time browsing Prime Day deals on Amazon, and I've been pleasantly surprised to find a bunch of my "they just look expensive" finds on major sale for the four-day event. This super cool modern lamp that people have mistaken for CB2? Nearly 40% off right now. And these comfy slide sandals that look really similar to a Tory Burch pair I've been coveting? $50 off for a limited time only. Keep scrolling for more bougie-on-a-budget buys.
I needed a small lamp for a tiny corner in my apartment that I like to work in at night. I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this cutie on Amazon, but I instantly fell in love when I assembled it. The minimal design doesn't compete with other decor I have in the room and the touch function offers three levels of brightness. Most people think I paid a small fortune for it at a fancy design store, so I relish revealing it was such a steal at Amazon.
There's something so luxe about the black velvet exterior of this travel jewelry box. When I unpacked it for a recent trip to visit my parents, my mom gasped and asked how much I paid for it. You see, she assumed it was from Mark & Graham or some such store. She didn't believe me when I told her it was less than $10 at Amazon. I had to show her that I actually have three of them to prove they only look expensive.
Would I love to hire an interior designer to come into my home and build a beautiful gallery wall? Yes. Can I afford such a thing? Not even close. So, I took matters into my own hands. I ordered a few cute prints on Etsy, put them in these simple white frames from Amazon, and voila, boring wall be gone. I personally think the mat is what makes these frames look high-end, but you can remove it if you don't like the look.
I love the look of a crisp white linen skirt for summer, and have been stalking this Eileen Fisher style for months. Sadly, the price hasn't budged. So when I saw a similar-looking DKNY style on super sale in light blue, I snagged it. It's perfection, so I went back for the white I had my heart set on. Currently waiting for it to arrive so I can wear it on repeat all summer long.
I tried to convince myself that I was going to save up for those luxe-looking clear containers from The Container Store to organize my shoes. But at $10 a box I just couldn't do it. So I took a chance on this Amazon set, and so far, so good! What was once a mess of sneakers and sandals at the bottom of my closet is now beautifully organized, like something out of a magazine.
Okay, full disclosure: I did pay good money for my dining table. But that means I'm a total maniac about ensuring it doesn't get ruined. Coasters are mandatory, but why settle for any coasters when you can have solid marble ones? The simple white design is both chic and neutral, and there's just something about the weight of them that exudes wealth. I could've spent $74 on this set from McGee & Co, but I'm very happy with these from Amazon (as is my bank account).
Yes, I have a thing for marble, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that I also have this marble spoon rest in my kitchen. It instantly elevates the look of the countertop and makes me feel like I'm my very own Barefoot Contessa. I will note, this bad boy is heavy, so it pretty much stays put in my home. Also, the white marble stains pretty easily, so I'll never put a tomato sauced-soaked spoon on it again.
There's no world in which I can afford this pricey pair of sandals by Tory Burch, no matter how much I love them, so best to go with a lookalike option. These Sam Edelman slides have that same sporty look, are comfy enough to walk around in and the neutral cream color means they'll match everything in my summer wardrobe. I've worn them several times this season and 10 out of 10 highly recommend.
Aside from the smallest medicine cabinet known to man, my tiny bathroom has literally zero storage. Tired of having to wait for someone to bring me a new roll, I decided to get this basket for behind the toilet to stash spare TP. Oddly, it's one of the things visitors ask me about the most. It's practical, it looks nice and can be used in so many places beyond the bathroom. I also have one on my dresser to hold hair clips and scrunchies. The uses are endless.
I really like nice lingerie. There's something about wearing a gorgeous bra and matching undies that just makes me feel like a special lady. And hey, if I have to wear a bra, it might as well be beautiful right? Journelle, Eberjey and Cosabella are among my favorite splurge brands, but I have to say, this simple yet luxurious Calvin Klein bra competes with designs I've spent three times as much for. It's sheer and has a silky, barely-there feel that's total "rich mom" vibes.
I just ordered this floral print makeup case and it's giving serious Sezane energy... for a fraction of the price, that is. I love the blue and white, but there are more than 20 other patterns to choose from. The inside is spacious enough for multiple travel-sized toiletries, plus makeup and brushes, too.
Shh! These affordable Amazon finds only look pricey. (Amazon)
